Pain Reprocessing Therapy
Living with chronic pain can be exhausting.

It affects far more than your body. Pain can shape how you move, work, sleep, exercise, connect with others, and experience daily life. Over time, it often creates a cycle of fear, hypervigilance, frustration, and uncertainty that can leave you feeling disconnected from the life you want to live.

At The Body Oracle Collective, I offer Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) Coaching for individuals living with persistent pain. Grounded in the neuroscience of pain and informed by the pioneering work of Alan Gordon and the Pain Psychology Center, this evidence-based approach helps people understand how the brain and nervous system can contribute to ongoing pain—even after tissues have healed or when structural findings do not fully explain the intensity or persistence of symptoms.
Pain Reprocessing Therapy is not about convincing you that your pain is "all in your head."
Your pain is real.
The goal is to understand why your nervous system may continue producing pain and to gently teach your brain that your body is safe again.
What Is Pain Reprocessing Therapy?
Pain Reprocessing Therapy is a neuroscience-informed approach designed for many forms of chronic or persistent pain that have significant neuroplastic or centralized components.
Research over the past two decades has shown that the brain is not simply a passive receiver of pain signals. Instead, it continuously evaluates information from the body, emotions, memories, stress, and the environment to determine whether protection is needed.
Sometimes the nervous system becomes overprotective.
Like a smoke alarm that becomes too sensitive, it begins sending pain signals even when there is no ongoing tissue damage requiring protection.
Pain Reprocessing Therapy helps retrain this protective system by reducing fear, changing learned pain pathways, and increasing feelings of safety within the nervous system.

Is Pain Reprocessing Therapy Right for You?
PRT may be appropriate for individuals experiencing persistent pain such as:
-
Chronic back or neck pain
-
Fibromyalgia
-
Repetitive strain pain
-
Persistent joint or muscle pain
-
Chronic headaches or migraines
-
Pelvic pain
-
Symptoms that fluctuate with stress or emotional states
-
Pain that continues despite medical treatment or healed injuries
Before beginning PRT coaching, it is important that serious medical conditions have been appropriately evaluated by your healthcare provider. Coaching complements medical care and is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment.
How Pain Changes the Brain
Persistent pain often creates understandable patterns of fear and protection.
You may begin avoiding certain movements, scanning your body for danger, or expecting pain before it even appears. These responses are natural—but over time they can reinforce the brain's protective pain circuits.
Together, we'll work to interrupt this cycle.
You'll learn to:
-
Understand the neuroscience of chronic pain
-
Reduce fear surrounding pain sensations
-
Shift attention away from constant monitoring
-
Respond to pain with curiosity instead of alarm
-
Calm an overprotective nervous system
-
Gradually rebuild confidence in movement and daily activities
-
Strengthen new neural pathways that support safety rather than danger
This process is often called pain reprocessing because it helps the brain develop new interpretations of familiar sensations.
A Compassionate, Whole-Person Approach
Pain is never "just physical."
Stress, emotions, past experiences, sleep, beliefs, and the nervous system all influence how pain is experienced.
Our work together integrates:
-
Certified Pain Reprocessing Therapy Coaching
-
Pain neuroscience education
-
Nervous system regulation
-
Mindfulness practices
-
Somatic awareness
-
Self-compassion training
-
Gentle movement and Qigong
-
Breathwork and relaxation strategies
-
Health and wellness coaching to support sustainable lifestyle change
Rather than fighting your body, you'll learn to become curious about what it is communicating and develop a relationship with yourself grounded in safety instead of fear.
Why Self-Compassion Matters
One of the greatest challenges of chronic pain is the relationship we develop with our own bodies.
Many people begin to feel betrayed by their bodies, frustrated with their limitations, or fearful of every new sensation.
Self-compassion changes this relationship.
Instead of responding to pain with panic or self-criticism, you'll learn practices that foster patience, kindness, and emotional safety. Research suggests that cultivating safety and reducing fear can support healthier nervous system functioning, creating conditions that may help reduce the intensity and persistence of pain for some people.

What Coaching Looks Like
Each session is personalized to your unique experience.
Together we may explore:
-
Your pain history and patterns
-
Education about neuroplastic pain
-
Somatic tracking practices
-
Nervous system regulation skills
-
Fear reduction strategies
-
Emotional awareness
-
Gentle behavioral experiments
-
Building confidence in movement
-
Lifestyle habits that support nervous system health
The goal is not simply to reduce pain.
It is to help you reclaim trust in your body, restore confidence in movement, and reconnect with a meaningful, fulfilling life.
Imagine Living Beyond Pain

Pain Reprocessing Therapy offers a hopeful, evidence-based path for many people living with persistent pain. While every person's experience is unique and outcomes vary, many individuals discover that as fear decreases and the nervous system learns safety, pain can become less intense, less frequent, and less central to their lives.
At The Body Oracle Collective, I believe healing is not about forcing the body to change.
It begins by creating the conditions in which the nervous system can remember that it is safe.
Together, we'll work toward restoring not only comfort, but confidence, resilience, and a renewed relationship with your body.
